AWPGA Code of Ethics

The primary purpose of the AWPGA is the protection of the purebred Wirehaired Pointing Griffon. This Code is to outine the principals the AWPGA expects its members to follow to preserve the quality and ensure the welfare of the breed. The Code also defines the minimal ethical practices expected of all members.

A. To abide by the principals of the AWPGA Constitution and By-Laws, and the Rules and Regulations of the American Kennel Club.

B. To accept and breed only to the AWPGA Breed Standards, or to the standard of the country in which they reside.

C. To abide by the “AWPGA Breeders Standards”.

D. To permanently identify and register each animal owned or puppies bred before leaving the breeder.

E. To make every effort to assist the novice and educate the public regarding the Wirehaired Pointing Griffon and provide accurate information regarding their general health, upkeep and training needs.

F. To provide the best possible environment for the physical and emotional well-being of the dogs, including adequate and appropriate attention, socialization, grooming, feeding, veterinary care, housing and exercise.

G. To property train their dogs so that they are an asset to their community and not a nuisance.

H. To support ethical trade practices and sell only to responsible persons. To refrain from selling to wholesale or commercial entities, pet shops or any other person who intends to resell said dog or puppy.

I. To refrain from placing a dog in a shelter. (The dog’s breeder should be the first one contacted in cases where a dog must be rehomed. AWPGA Rescue can also provide assistance, if needed).

J. All AWPGA members will conduct themselves honorably and at all times exhibit good sportsmanship. Untrue or unfair statements regarding the dogs or practices of others shall never knowingly be made by a member. Members should conduct themselves as to always be a credit to the Breed.

K. To put the welfare of each dog above personal gain, profit and/or personal convenience, remembering that each dog is a lifetime responsibility.

Nothing in this Code of Ethics should be construed to be in violation of the Rules and Regulations of the American Kennel Club or the Constitution and By-Laws of the American Wirehaired Pointing Griffon Association. The AWPGA reserves the right ot discipline members who violate this Code, including expulsion.
